Custom Fields

Your ContactEase database is pre-loaded with 24 custom fields.  These fields can be customized based on your firm's specifications -- you can rename them and assign properties. 

Unused fields can be hidden from view. In ContactEase, text-only fields are labeled Custom 1 through 12 while numeric fields are labeled with the # sign. 

Custom fields are accessed through the file menu by going to File > Preferences > Customize Fields > Fields > Custom. Custom fields are displayed on the right. A checkbox indicates that the field is visible to you. 

Use the Change button to rename the custom field.  This name will now appear for all users (unless checked). 

Custom Field Contents

Custom fields come pre-loaded into your ContactEase database. You can assign properties to the custom fields based on your firm's preferences. 

Custom fields 1 through 12 are text-only and can be assigned choice lists. Examples of how firms might use a custom text field include: 
  • Client Rankings 
  • Primary Lawyer
  • Primary Practice Group 
When working with numeric fields (those indicated with the # sign), you can set the field to only accept certain types of data (dates, dollar values, etc.) Examples of how firms might use custom numeric fields include: 
  • Value of Matter
  • Hours Worked
